VAST photos are exceptionally high quality images with more than a hundred times the resolution of traditional fine art photographs. The quality of typical professional photos is significantly degraded when printed larger than 18 inches wide. VAST photos, however, retain magazine-quality sharpness even when printed many square feet larger.

VAST photos are created by seamlessly stitching together numerous digital photos into a single final image. For example, the following 704 megapixel image of New York City at sunrise was constructed from 63 individual photos. Each photo has a resolution of 50 megapixels and was shot using the leading digital field camera and a long telephoto lens. The final image can be enlarged to 11 x 5 feet without any loss of quality. Every aspect of the VAST photo creation process from the choice of subject to the use of advanced photographic equipment to the post-processing techniques is designed to ensure the utmost quality in a final large-scale print. VAST photos are exclusively printed in New York City by the acclaimed Duggal printing facility using the highest-resolution (6200 dpi) chromogenic printer ever made, originally used by the U.S. military for printing extremely high-resolution surveillance footage.
